The May meeting of UFOP’s Great Basin Chapter will be Thursday, May 14th at 7:00 pm. Our speaker will be Jacob Freewin from Brigham Young University and his talk is titled “New evidence of a large theropod dinosaur in the Yellow Cat Member (Barremian) of the Cedar Mountain Formation, Utah, USA”.
Our speaker this month is Tony Harper, PhD, who will be presenting his research on mammalian inner ears from Argentina to Mongolia. He promised to keep the technical level of his presentation appropriate for non-PhD listeners. Thank you Tony! His talk is titled, “The Sound and the Furry: Mammalian Cochlear Evolution in the Mesozoic”

Castle Country Chapter will meet on Monday, April 8 and will feature a talk by Michael Chiappone, PhD candidate at University of Minnesota. He will be presenting “Go with the Flow: Experimental Methods for Investigating Bone Transport and Burial”. Join us online or meet at the museum classroom at 7 pm. A few of us will be meeting at the Mecca before the meeting if you care to join us, around 5:15 pm.
The Southwest Chapter of Utah Friends of Paleontology’s March speaker is Robert Gay, the Education Manager at the Idaho Museum of Natural History. Rob is heading our way to work at the SGDDS quarry. While he’s here, he’ll educate us on the Idaho Dino scene. Come meet Rob at our March meeting!

The Great Basin Chapter in Salt Lake City will be hosting this year’s UFOP Annual Meeting. It will be held the weekend of August 28th – 30th. This will be a fun and rewarding weekend full of paleontology socializing, science talks, a banquet and field trips. Watch here for updates and save the date!
Castle Country Chapter will meet on Monday, March 16 and will feature visiting researcher (and former USU/museum student) Whitney Greaves talking about her master’s research using fossil plants to tell the story of Cretaceous climate in North America. Check this post for updates.
