Join Your Fellow Paleontology Friends on a Guided Field Trip!
Please join the UFOP Southwestern Chapter on a field trip led by Andrew Milner on Saturday, September 26th to search for trilobites and other Cambrian fossils near Pioche, Nevada.
Andrew will lead the team to two different sites, where several species of trilobites dating back some 520 million years can be found. You might also discover brachiopods, eocrinoids, and rare soft-bodied fossils.
Please bring gloves, chisels, hammers, materials to wrap your fossils, and something to store them in for the ride home. Also make sure to dress for the weather, bring adequate water, sun screen and lunch! It could be a hot day out there.
We plan on meeting at the Shell station in Panaca at the intersection of the 93 and Main St (319) at 10:30 AM.
For those of you that may want to carpool, Cory Kimber, our Vice President, will be at the St George Dinosaur Site at 2180 E Riverside Dr, St George at 7:15 AM with a departure planned at 7:30. The drive will take approximately 1 hour 40 minutes, which includes a time change.
Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity! There are huge quantities of trilobites present, and hopefully you will find some complete examples. You can even sit under a tree and sort through the shale to find specimens. A standard car will get you close to most of the sites in the Pioche Hills.
This field trip is for UFOP members only. You may join the Southwest Chapter by paying dues in the online store.
Hope to see you there!
