Great Basin Chapter’s monthly meetings kick off the new year with a bang. We will be honored to have Adrian Boeye be our speaker presenting his talk Tyrannosaurs Ran like an 8 Tonne Bird. From Adrian, “The concentration of this talk is on the construction of a novel model of the locomotion of Tyrannosaurus involving intensive reconstruction of musculature and function of the tail alongside integration of other dynamic aspects of the body while in motion. Additional work involves locomotor comparisons between the modelled Tyrannosaurus and its modern descendants, the birds, in turn holding significant ramifications for our understanding of the biomechanics and evolution of modern avians.”
Adrian is currently an undergraduate studying Biology at College of the Atlantic. Much of his work has revolved around biomechanics and the biomechanics of locomotion, in turn using these quantitative results to understand ecology and the later evolution of birds. When he is not working on theropod dinosaurs or doing work in Alaska, his other side projects include studying the bite forces of seals and sea lions as well as additional work on Morrison formation ecology. As a future PhD student Adrian hopes to continue work in biomechanics and evolution.
