Unearth Ancient Secrets with “Fossil Discoveries” — A Hands-On Adventure from the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site
The St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site invites adventurers, science enthusiasts, and families to step into the shoes of a paleontologist with Fossil Discoveries, an immersive three-hour fossil-hunting experience that combines science, exploration, and discovery.
The adventure begins at the museum with a behind-the-scenes tour of the fossil preparation lab, where participants learn how scientists clean and study fossils. Then, the group will head to a nearby active quarry site—a location significant to Utah’s rich paleontological history. After a safety and tool-use briefing, participants will spend two hours uncovering real fossils that have been hidden for millions of years.
“Fossil Discoveries offers the unique opportunity to learn, explore, and make real contributions to science,” said Andrew Milner, Curator & Lead Paleontologist at the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site. “It’s a chance for visitors to experience firsthand how fossils are found and why these discoveries matter to our understanding of ancient life in this region.”
Each participant’s ticket also includes admission to the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site, where guests can explore world-renowned dinosaur tracks, exhibits, and interactive displays before or after their field experience. While small finds like fish scales may be taken home, significant discoveries will remain with the site for ongoing research and preservation. Plus, the adventure is appropriate for ages 8+, perfect for the budding paleontologist in your family!
