Great Basin Chapter Online Meeting, October 10 at 7:00 PM MDT with speaker Dr. James Napoli

Join the Great Basin Chapter of Utah Friends of Paleontology for an online meeting, Thursday October 10 at 7:00 PM MDT.

Our speaker is Dr. James Napoli from Stony Brook University and the title of his talk will be Underestimating Dinosaurs: The ‘Paleospecies’ Problem.

Dr. Napoli is a research instructor in the Department of Anatomical Sciences at Stony Brook University, where he teaches human anatomy to students in healthcare degree programs and researches theropod dinosaur evolution. He is particularly interested in developing new tools to identify new species in the fossil record, and in the role of developmental changes in driving evolution of dinosaurs along the line to modern birds. He completed his PhD at the American Museum of Natural History in 2022, and before starting at Stony Brook was a postdoctoral researcher working with Dr. Lindsay Zanno on the ‘Dueling Dinosaurs’ project at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, on which he is still a core team member.
